During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Chinese produced a wide variety of shimmering
porcelain objects to export to the West. Referred to today as Chinese export porcelain,
pieces were prized by those fortunate enough to acquire them. Shapes were pleasing and
bold, decorations inventive and colorful. One beautiful dinner service in the famed
Winterthur Museum collection is being reintroduced to the world by Mottahedeh as Emeral
Vine. The pattern reproduces the elegant design of a plate made in China between 1800 and
1840. Each piece of Emerald Vine is encircled by a stylized laurel wreath of emerald-green
leaves outlined in gold and accented by gold tendrils to create a subdued opulenece
reminiscent of the neoclassical style. Mottahedeh, in capturing the look of the original
design with the use of green enamels and 22-carat matte powder gold against the soft-blue
color of the porcelain, has created a dinner service worthy of use on any table in any
season. Back to Smiths China Mottahedeh Page
